299 left in fray for 2nd phase of J&K polls

A total of 299 candidates were left in the fray for the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls, which would be held on September 24, after the nomination papers of six candidates were rejected on Friday, official sources said.

Those rejected included Nazir Ahmad of the National Panther's Party. He wanted to contest from Ganderbal, from where National Conference chief Omar Abdullah was in the fray, they said.

Sonawar assembly segment accounted for half the disqualifications, with nominations of Qazi Zahoor Abbas [Janata Dal-Secular], Abdul Rashid Lone and Abide Khalil [both independents], being rejected.
