Villager injured in Pakistani firing

A villager was injured as Pakistani troops opened fire from across the Line of Control, official sources said on Tuesday in Jammu.

He was shifted to the district hospital in Poonch for treatment.

Trouble began when Pakistani troops resorted to mortar shelling and small arms firing on the border village of Mankot in Mendhar sector of Poonch district around Monday noon.

Indian troops retaliated and the exchange of shelling and firing between two sides continued till evening.

Artillery duels along LoC were reported in the Drass sector of Ladakh region on Monday night.

Intermittent firing exchange also took place at several places along the international border in Jammu and Kathua districts during the last 24 hours.

No casualty or damage was, however, reported on the Indian side.
