Pakistan test fires Shaheen missile

Pakistan on Friday test fired the medium range surface-to-surface missile Shaheen, which reportedly has a range of 700 km and is capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The test was conducted off the Somyami coast, Pakistani daily Jung said. India was given prior warning of the test, state-owned Associated Press of Pakistan said.

A decision to test the missile was taken during President Pervez Musharraf's visit to the ISI headquarters in Islamabad two days ago, some reports said.

They also said the Indian Charge d'Affaires, Sudhir Vyas, was informed of the test by the Pakistan Foreign Office on Thursday evening.
