All eyes on EC's visit
Ahmedabad, Nov 10 (PTI) All eyes are set on the two-day
visit of the Election Commission (EC) team, headed by Chief
Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh, beginning tomorrow, to
review the preparations for the December 12 assembly polls.
According to sources in the state election department,
while two Election Commissioners T S Krishnamurthy and B B
Tandon are likely to arrive tonight, Lyngdoh is expected
tomorrow morning.
The visit assumes significance in the backdrop of
sporadic incidents of violence a few days back in Ahmedabad.
During their stay in Ahmedabad, the EC would hold
discussions with senior civil and police officials including
the Chief Secretary G Subbarao, Additional Chief Secretary
Home Ashok Narayan and DGP K Chakravarthy, sources said.
+The Commission would also hold meeting with all
collectors except for Saurashtra region,+ they said adding
those from Saurashtra would call on Lyngdoh and his colleagues
during their visit to Rajkot on November 12.
Besides the scheduled official meetings, the EC would
also hold parleys with representatives of political parties,
NGOs and members of public at the circuit house.
Before wrapping up the day's events, Lyngdoh is also
scheduled to address a press conference, the sources said.
The Commission would leave for Rajkot early the next day.
Political parties and administrators are keeping a close
vigil on Lyngdoh's visit as the full Commission after a tour
of the state in August last had decided against holding of
polls, precipitating much of a controversy with the ruling
