Violence in Ahmedabad, 1 killed

At least one person was killed in police firing and 33 injured in fresh violence in parts of Ahmedabad on Friday morning, prompting authorities to clamp indefinite curfew in four areas.

A youth was killed when police opened fire and burst several teargas shells to disperse mobs in Jamalpur and Raikhad localities of Haveli police station areas.

These localities witnessed group clashes after a person was stabbed to death in Jamalpur on Thursday, police said.

The police promptly imposed indefinite curfew in four police station areas of Haveli, Danilimda, Kalupur and Kagdapith as a precautionary measure.

Many of the injured sustained bullet and crude bomb injuries, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile, the flash strike by Ahmedabad fire brigade men continued in protest against the mob attack late on Thursday night

Fire brigade sources said that unless security was provided to them and their families during operation they would not resume duty.
