Naidu accuses BJP of deviating
from NDA agenda

Sulking Bharatiya Janata Party ally Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has accused the BJP of deviating from the secular National Democratic Alliance agenda and insisted that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi should be removed.

"On this issue (Gujarat) I feel the NDA agenda has been violated," Naidu, whose 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha walked out during the voting on the censure motion on Gujarat on Tuesday, said in an interview to Outlook magazine.

Insisting on Modi's removal for his failure to stop communal violence in Gujarat, Naidu said: "There will be changes...you will see. Ever so many changes will take place from now on. After all, in politics nothing is permanent."

Defending his party's decision not to support the opposition motion, Naidu said: "The resolution was too general. It was not specific to Gujarat and talked of law and order in all the states. Look at the wording of the motion. It could include Andhra Pradesh and all the 14 Congress-ruled states. Besides, it was a resolution moved by the opposition and the Congress."

The TDP chief was, however, quick to add that he had done all he could to bear pressure on the prime minister to dismiss Modi.

"It is only because of us that all this happened. Of all the [NDA] allies, only the TDP staged a walkout. We took a strong stand. Even minority leaders in the NDA did not do much. We have to think of keeping up the pressure. This is required in the interest of the nation. We will insist that Modi be removed," Naidu said.
