PM reacts sharply to Sonia's
Gandhi-Godse remark

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Wednesday night reacted sharply to Congress President Sonia Gandhi's remark in Porbandar that 'Gandhiji's Gujarat was being turned into Godse's Gujarat', saying this "is a gross and self-serving misrepresentation" of the happenings in the state.

In a statement in New Delhi, Vajpayee took strong exception to Gandhi's remarks and said such utterances hardly helped in creating a consensus on national issues.

Recalling that Gandhi had said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that time had come to go from polarisation to reconciliation and from discord to dialogue, he said her remark in Porbandar today was "intended to evoke quite the opposite effect."
