Curfew continues in parts of Gujarat, stray incidents of violence persist

In view of the prevailing situation, the tazia procession on the eve of Moharrum (a Muslim festival) was postponed in Ahmedabad and other parts of the state, as per the decision of the tazia committee.

There was no relaxation in the curfew in Ahmedabad as the situation continued to be tense, police said on Monday morning adding at least three people, including a woman, were stabbed to death in a city area on Sunday.

No other untoward incident was reported from the trouble torn areas since Sunday night, they said.

Curfew is in force in Kalupur, Dariapur, Shahpur, Karanj, Haveli, Vejalpur areas even as night curfew continued in Dani Limda, they added.

Curfew is also in force at Prantij, Chhota Udaipur, Jambusar, Boarsad, Modasa, Himmatnagar Viramgam, Baroda and Bharuch towns in the state.

At Savali village in Baroda rural district, police fired in the air to disperse a stone-pelting mob, which was trying to damage a religious place on Sunday, police added.

In another incident, police resorted to firing to scare away a crowd trying to set afire shops at Bhadran town on Sunday night after the stabbing incident in Borsad town of Anand district, police said, adding stone pelting incidents were reported from Bhavnagar too.
