Probe into Godhra carnage to cover
riots too

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the one-member judicial commission, set up to investigate the attack on the Sabarmati Express at Godhra, would also probe the communal carnage that followed.

He said that the Godhra incident was not communal violence, but an "act of terrorism".

Meanwhile, two women belonging to a minority community were beaten to death by a mob at Devgarhbadia village, about 40 km from Godhra in Dahod district.

In a separate incident in the same district, one person was killed and two were injured when police fired at arsonists. Another person succumbed to injuries on Tuesday at Jalod.

Curfew was relaxed in some parts of the state, as security forces maintained a strict vigil.

In Ahmedabad, people from various religious groups took out a silent peace march amidst heavy police escort. Around 10,000 people took part in the six-km long march, which culminated at the Sabarmati Ashram.
