Twenty-two people burnt alive in
Gujarat village

At least 22 people were burnt alive by a mob in Sardarpur village in Gujarat's Mehsana district on Friday night, police said.

The crowd surrounded the village, which was mostly inhabited by labourers belonging to a minority community, and set fire to houses and shops, the police said.

Twenty-two charred bodies have been recovered so far, a senior official said.

There were around 250 to 300 people living in two muhallas of the village and it is not known how many people have survived, he said.

Earlier, the police had fired two rounds in the air to disperse the crowd. The incident took place after the police patrol left the village.
