The Orissa government has deported 25 of 38 Myanmarese fishermen living in its coastal district of Jagatsinghpur since last several months, District Superintendent of Police S K Palsania said on Monday.
The police arrested the fishermen in January last year for fishing in Indian waters. A court acquitted them later.
"We had communicated to the officials of their embassy in India and asked them to take back the fishermen to their country. After the verification of the identity of the fishermen the embassy officials on Saturday took 25 of them back in a private bus to Kolkata," he said.
They will also take back the rest of the fishermen in soon, he said.
