The Samata Party -- a partner in the Babulal Marandi-led National Democratic Alliance government in Jharkhand -- on Thursday sought Delhi's intervention to end the standoff between pro and anti-domicile groups in the state.
The standoff took an ugly turn on Wednesday when a bandh called by pro-domicile groups turned violent claiming five lives.
The Marandi government's decision to give preference to domiciled Jharkhandis in government jobs has divided the state into pro-domicile and anti-domicile groups.
The chief minister is now under intense pressure from his ally, the Samata Party, to review the decision. Two former chief ministers of Bihar -- Laloo Prasad Yadav and Jagananth Mishra -- have also sought a review of the decision.
"The Centre should seriously think of intervening...it's an emotive issue and clashes [between pro and anti-domicile] groups have already claimed five lives," Samata Party spokesman Promod Mishra said.
He alleged Marandi's ministers are all speaking in different voices creating more confusion among the masses.
The Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has blamed the state administration for Wednesday's violence.
"The state government knew that such a thing could happen. It failed to control the situation," Jharkhand unit chief of the Congress Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu said.
Meanwhile, curfew has been imposed in three areas of capital Ranchi.
The curfew was imposed at 5 am on Thursday and would remain in force till 5 am Friday.
