Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Friday said that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not seem open to the idea of postponing the assembly polls in J&K.
The former Union home minister had a 30-minute meeting with Vajpayee on Thursday.
Explaining the reasons for his demand for postponement of polls, Mufti said that September/October being the harvesting season in the state, a large number of Gujjars and Bakarwals would be unable to participate.
When Vajpayee visited J&K recently, Mufti's daughter Mehbooba Mufti had met him and submitted a memorandum regarding assembly polls in the state.
Sources close to the former home minister felt that the elections should be held in March next year when most of the mountain passes would be blocked by snow and the threat of terrorists infiltrating from across the border would be relatively lower then in September/October.
