Laloo granted bail in a fodder scam case

Rashtriya Janata Dal president Laloo Prasad Yadav was on Monday granted provisional bail by the Patna high court in the conspiracy angle case of the multi-million rupees fodder scam, barely hours after his judicial remand was extended by a week in the same case by a special Central Bureau of Investigation court.

Justice Narayan Roy granted a provisional bail for three months to Yadav in a case involving fraudulent withdrawals of Rs 4.7 million from the Bhagalpur treasury by Bihar Animal Husbandry department officials when he was the chief minister between 1990-97.

The judge, however, said the bail would be effective only from the date Yadav was released on bail in another case, which involves swindling of Rs 370 million from the Doranda treasury in Ranchi during his chief ministership.

Despite being granted bail by the high court, Laloo would have to remain in jail until he gets a favourable order from the Jharkhand high court.

Yadav is at present in judicial custody in that case and his bail application is likely to come up for hearing in the Jharkhand high court on Tuesday.

According to Patna Civil Surgeon Dr A K Mishra and Jail Superintendent Mahendra Bharati, Yadav is suffering from acute spondylitis and fever.

A team of doctors headed by Mishra examined Yadav in the jail on Friday morning and advised him complete bed rest and avoid exposure to cold.
