Kishan Lal Khosla, a regular morning walker, was killed by the pachyderm while he was walking with a friend near a lake inside the sprawling park, the sources said.
On seeing the elephant, Khosla's friend alerted him and ran away from the spot to inform the security personnel but Khosla got killed by the time they reached the spot.
It was not known from where the animal came nor has it been seen since the incident.
Its footprints were noticed at Beldih and the J R D sports complex areas in the city, police said adding forest department officials had been informed about the incident.
