In a significant development, the Jaish-e-Mohammed announced on Monday that it had "immediately decided to suspend all activities in the rest of India" and "confine our activities to Jammu and Kashmir".
The Jaish was declared a foreign terrorist outfit by the United States in January. Pakistan, too, had banned the outfit along with the Lashkar-e-Tayiba.
"We will now exclusively confine our activities to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh," spokesman Mohammed Shamsuddin Haider said in a statement issued in Urdu.
The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by chief commander Abu Hijrat, the statement said.
"We have asked all our cadre in the rest of India to suspend their activities and return to J&K in order to continue the struggle," it said.
"The suicide attacks will continue in Kashmir and the Jaish has enough ammunition to fight for another five years," it added.
The government has blamed the Jaish for the attack on Parliament on December 13, 2001.
