R S Sharma to be new Mumbai police chief

Ranjit Singh Sharma is expected to take over from M N Singh as Mumbai Police Commissioner on January 1, 2003.
Sharma had earlier served as Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) in Mumbai in 1997-99 and was part of the team, which investigated the murder of music magnate Gulshan Kumar.
At present, he is the commissioner of the Pune police. M N Singh will retire on December 31, 2002 after serving as the city's police chief for 2 1/2 years.
