BJP to launch Gujarat Gaurav Yatra
on September 3

The Bharatiya Janata Party said on Tuesday that it would launch on September 3 its Gaurav Yatra in Kheda district, one of the worst hit during the riots in Gujarat.

The yatra was proposed for July 4, but was called off at the directive of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in view of the communal situation in the state then.

State unit BJP president Rajendrasinh Rana said in Ahmedabad that Chief Minister Narendra Modi and he would be leading the yatra.

"... now that the state assembly has been dissolved and elections are near, there is no reason for its deferment," Rana said, adding that the party's central leadership had given the go-ahead.

Asked why the yatra was being launched from Phagvel in Kheda district, he said it was a pilgrimage centre where Bhatiji Maharaj was killed in a campaign against cow slaughter around 200 years ago.
