Allegations against Mahajan malicious: Advani

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Friday came to the rescue of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan describing allegations against him in Indian Express journalist Shivani Bhatnagar's murder as "malicious."

He said the allegations were intended to derail the ongoing probe into the murder case.

Reacting to the charges made by Madhu Shama, wife of senior Indian Police Service officer Ravi Kant Sharma -- a prime suspect in the case -- Advani said: "These are all baseless allegations against a valued colleague, coming as they do from a suspect who is absconding."

Madhu Sharma, speaking to a television channel on Thursday night, had alleged that Mahajan was involved in Shivani's murder and had spoken to her for over 40 minutes on the day she was killed.

"It is not without reason that the person, who is the prime suspect in the case, is absconding," he said and added that the officials investigating the case have told him that the probe is reaching the "right destination."
