Minister of State for Home I D Swami on Thursday categorically ruled out instituting a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the allegations made by the wife of Indian Police Service Officer R K Sharma, the prime suspect in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case.
"The question does not arise," Swami said, adding, "If she is saying something, she should provide proof of her allegations... she should provide details of her allegations. Action can be taken on it."
Madhu alleged in Chandigarh that an 'influential person' was keen to frame her husband and demanded a CBI probe to unravel the 'truth'. She also sought intervention of the prime minister to 'restrain the home ministry and the Delhi police from 'targeting her husband'.
Swami said, "I can assure you that the home ministry does not interfere in the functioning the police."
