Terrorist groups to step up violence in J&K

In a bid to sabotage the assembly election in Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan-based terrorist groups have directed their cadres in the state to target one politician every day.

Official sources said intercepts suggesting an increase in violence were being received on a daily basis, but after the announcement of the election schedule on Friday, security agencies stumbled upon an intercept directing the terrorists to target one politician every day.

Efforts are on to assess the threat perception of ruling National Conference workers, who are falling prey to terrorist violence.

The sources said several terrorist organisations, including the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, had directed their cadres to carry out blasts at the offices of various political parties and discourage anyone who came for voting.

Some of the outfits have even formed special outfits to attack politicians. The 'Al-Jabbar' outfit has been formed by the Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen for this purpose.

Following this, security agencies have geared up their action against the terrorist outfits and their sympathisers to frustrate their attempts.

Meanwhile, another terrorist group, Tehreek-ul-Jehad, has directed the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference to launch an effective campaign against the polls.
