Shivani case: Second suspect remanded to police custody

One more key suspect -- Pradeep -- arrested by the Delhi police on Friday in connection with the murder of Indian Express principal correspondent Shivani Bhatnagar was remanded by a Delhi court to 14 days police custody on Saturday.

The police had already arrested Sri Bhagwan, a restaurant owner and property dealer of Gurgaon, in connection with the case three days ago. Bhagwan is also under police custody.

Pradeep, along with Bhagwan, is suspected to be part of the group believed to have entered Shivani's Navkunj Apartments flat on January 23, 1999, the day she was killed.

Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) U K Katna said Pradeep was picked up after raids were conducted at several places in Delhi.

The arrest came on the heels of the claims made by the crime branch on Thursday that it was 'close' to solving the case.

According to police sources, Bhagwan made 'some significant disclosures' on the basis of which the cops are now on the lookout for Satya Prakash, another property dealer and a relative of Bhagwan.

Meanwhile, the police are trying to match the handwriting of Bhagwan and Pradeep with the entries made in the register of Navkunj Apartments on January 23, 1999.

The motive behind Shivani's killing has been attributed to 'her intimacy with somebody', police sources said.

A senior Indian Police Service officer, R K Sharma, under whom Bhagwan's father Omkar Sharma had served in Gurgaon, is also suspected to be involved in the case, they said.
