MiG-21 crashes in Haryana, pilot escapes unhurt

An Indian Air Force MiG-21 crashed in Bambalwas village in Rajasthan on Friday afternoon, police said in Fatehabad (Haryana), which is about 25 km from the crash site.

The pilot escaped unhurt by bailing out before the aircraft crashed, police said. He landed in Ram Sara village in Haryana, they added.

The crash site is close to the Rajasthan-Haryana border.

The plane took off at around 1200 hrs from the Sirsa air base and crashed at about 1230 hrs, police said.

IAF officials, who reached the spot, were tight-lipped about the cause of the crash.

According to witnesses, the aircraft had caught fire before crashing into the fields.

Earlier reports had said that an IAF helicopter had crashed.
