The Bush administration has asked lawmakers for a supplemental appropriation of $20 million in foreign military financing for Nepal, state department spokesman Richard Boucher said on Tuesday.
Several options for military assistance are under review, he said reiterating US support for the right of Nepal to safeguard its citizens against the guerrillas 'within the framework of its own constitution'.
Nepal had asked the US and other countries for help in overcoming the Maoist insurgency as well as dealing with pressing economic and social needs.
"We had a meeting on April three and four in Washington with Nepal's foreign secretary. We discussed ways in which we can support Nepal in combating the Maoist insurgency and assist in Nepal's economic development," Boucher said.
