The Bharatiya Janata Party said on Tuesday that the Congress was "behaving like the Muslim League and condemning the majority community all the time".
Taking exception to the relay hunger strike by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her party leaders at Rajghat, New Delhi, on Tuesday demanding the ouster of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, BJP spokesman V K Malhotra said: "She (Gandhi) did not observe any fast on the Godhra incident, over the killing of 61,000 people in Pakistan's proxy war or the migration of 3.5 lakh Kashmiri Pandits from the valley."
"Gandhi did not express any concern or stage public demonstrations on these issues, but by raking up the Gujarat issue when the rehabilitation process is in full swing, the Congress is behaving like and playing the role of the Muslim League," he said.
The Congress was "all the time condemning the majority community", he added.
Criticising the opposition parties for stalling the proceedings in Parliament, he said the sessions were meant to "transact government business and not opposition business".
"Opposition should have its say, but there is a democratic way of going about it. The budget or important demands for grants are not being discussed. The opposition can bring up the Gujarat issue while discussing the home ministry's demands," he said.
