Union Home Minister L K Advani on Saturday dismissed speculation of the BJP deviating from the NDA's common agenda for governance and reverting to its Hindutva agenda.
At the same time, he said the BJP's apologetic attitude about its own agenda was contributing to people's disenchantment with the party.
Speaking to mediapersons, Advani clarified that the BJP would not go back to its Hindutva agenda or part ways with the ruling coalition.
"The NDA will compete its tenure," he reiterated.
He was critical of the NDA allies seeking the ouster of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the carnage in the state that left over 800 persons dead.
He pointed out that NDA constituents could not make such demands as Gujarat was a BJP-ruled state, not an NDA-ruled one.
He was non-committal on whether the decision to go to polls in Gujarat was a step towards consolidating the Hindu vote.
Referring to the party's debacle in almost all the elections held recently in several parts of the country, Advani said while the NDA's performance had been good, it was not good enough to fulfill the aspirations of the people.
He suggested several measures, including drafting some BJP ministers into party work, to revamp the party. "The prime minister may go in for a reshuffle soon after the Parliament session," he said.
Advani has also suggested strengthening the system of disseminating information to make people aware of government policies and the steps taken for their welfare.
