Congress begins 'remove Modi' campaign

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarsinh Chaudhary sat on a dharna in Gandhinagar along with his party workers demanding Modi's ouster.

Opposition leader in the state assembly Naresh Raval also joined the sit-in.

Terming Modi's regime as "regressive", Chaudhary and Raval said Gujarat was passing through a critical phase.

The Congress has organised programmes at all the taluka and district headquarters as part of its campaign.

Earlier, the Congress was denied permission to organise the sit-in in Ahmedabad.

Chaudhary said: "The police commissioner asked us if we could change the venue because of the tense situation. We agreed to hold dharna in Gandhinagar instead."

The GPCC chief said that the Congress had decided not to hold dharnas in sensitive areas like Baroda and Godhra.
