Laloo demands Gujarat CM's arrest

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The former Bihar chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav on Monday demanded the arrest of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the attack by the police on mediapersons in Sabarmati Ashram, Gandhinagar, on Sunday.

Yadav, recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, condemned the incident and said that it was an attack on the 'freedom of press' in Gujarat.

Yadav said that it is 'baseless' to blame policemen for the attack.

"Policemen were not responsible for the attack on mediapersons. The attack was carried at the instance of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi," Yadav said.

Yadav said that Modi was looking for an opportunity to 'teach a lesson' to mediapersons after he was 'exposed' by the media during the recent communal riots in Gujarat.

"Modi has shown his anger by allowing policemen to attack the mediapersons," Yadav alleged.
