Pandemonium in Gujarat assembly, seven Cong MLAs suspended

From the start of the day's proceedings, Congress members raised the issue of the continuing communal violence and prevented the House from taking up the listed business.

Congress members rushed to the well of the House shouting anti-government slogans and ignored repeated appeals by Speaker Dhirubhai Shah to permit transaction of listed business.

The Congress members demanded that the government firmly deal with violence and immediately stop the killing of innocent people.

Despite two brief adjournments, the situation did not improve.

The speaker even called marshals to remove protesting Congress members from the House.

Later, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Mehta moved a motion to suspend seven Congress members for three days, which was accepted by a voice vote.

The suspended members are Raghavji Patel, Bharat Makwana, Sailesh Parmar, Paresh Vasava, Chandubhai Dabhi, Lalit Patel and Punjabhai Vansh.

However, Congress members continued to disrupt proceedings forcing the speaker to adjourn the House till afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly witnesses noisy scenes over the Gujarat situation.

As soon as the House assembled and was about to take up question hour, CPI-M MLA Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami raised the issue followed by members of Congress, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), BSP and the ruling National Conference.

The demanded a statement from the government on the situation in Gujarat.

Slogans demanding dismissal of the Narendra Modi government were raised by the opposition and NC members.
