Minorities commission summons top Gujarat officials

'Disappointed' over the Gujarat government's response to its notice on the violence, the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has summoned the state chief secretary and the home secretary to appear before it on April six.

"We had issued a notice to Gujarat government early in March seeking an Action Taken Report (ATR) on the incidents of violence in the state. But we have not received the same from them so far. Therefore, the secretaries have been asked to bring the list of all persons who died and also those who have been arrested during the recent riots," NCM Vice-Chairman Tarlochan Singh said in Delhi.

The decision was taken at an 'emergency' meeting of the commission on Monday, Singh said.

NCM has also directed the duo to apprise the commission of the measures taken by the state government to stop the violence.
