DSP, three constables killed in landmine blast in Jharkhand

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

A Deputy Superintendent of Police and three constables of Jharkhand police were killed in a landmine blast and subsequent exchange of fire in Bhandaria police station under Garhwa district of Jharkhand on Thursday.

According to initial reports, about seven policemen including a DSP were going on a vehicle, when a landmine blast took place.

It was not clear, however, which group was responsible for the landmine blast.

The Garhwa SP, who was in Ranchi attending a police congress meeting, rushed to the spot to assess the situation.

Four others who survived the incident have been shifted to Rajendra Medical College hospital, Ranchi.

The underground Maoist Communist Centre and People's War Group are quite active in Jharkhand, and earlier had made four similar attacks on policemen in less than a month.
