Scribes, RJD leaders lathicharged in Ranchi

Soroor Ahmed in Patna

Several newsmen and Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders were badly injured when the Ranchi police indulged in an unprovoked lathicharge on them moments after Laloo Yadav came out of the court following the rejection of bail plea.

Those attacked were reporters and cameramen of Star News, Aaj Tak and UNI.

Soon as Laloo came out of the courtroom, the assembled newsmen made a beeline for the RJD leader for his reaction to the court ruling.

However, while they were approaching the police indulged in the lathicharge taking them by complete surprise.

Several RJD leaders were also injured in the incident, which created tension.

Infuriated RJD president Laloo Yadav condemned the police brutality and charged that this only shows the Babulal Marandi government's (Jharkhand) design.

However, he was later taken to the Bacon factory guesthouse where he will be lodged for 14 days.

Meanwhile, the lawyers of Laloo Yadav and Jagannath Mishra told newsmen that their clients would appeal to the higher court.
