An Indian diplomatic mission to Afghanistan, the first-ever since New Delhi closed its embassy in Kabul in 1996, arrived in the war-torn country on Wednesday, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh informed the Rajya Sabha.
The mission, which included a special envoy for Afghanistan, arrived at the Bagram airfield near Kabul in the morning, Singh said, making a statement in the House.
The mission included a medical and nursing component, which will stay on in Kabul along with the liaison officer of the external affairs ministry, he said.
The Indian Embassy in Kabul was closed on September 26, 1996, after the Taleban captured power in Afghanistan.
