India, Russia to sign anti-terrorism
declaration on Tuesday

India and Russia are expected to come out strongly on the need to tackle terrorism as a global phenomenon including within its ambit countries that harbour terrorists and foment cross-border terrorism in the Moscow Declaration on International Terrorism to be signed in Moscow on Tuesday.

The document is also likely to touch upon the current United States-led military campaign in Afghanistan and underscore the need for establishing a broad-based multi-ethnic government chosen by the people of the war-ravaged nation.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who arrived in Moscow on Monday from St Petersburg, will hold one-to-one talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Tuesday followed by delegation-level parleys and the signing of the Moscow Declaration.

Giving a broad overview of the historic Declaration forming part of the current global campaign, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov told newspersons on board the prime minister's special aircraft that the two countries have identical positions on bilateral, international and regional issues, including international terrorism and the situation in Afghanistan and these would be expressed in the Declaration.
