Northwesters swept across the country killing at least eleven people and injuring more than 30 over the last two days.
Northern Rajshahi, Naogaon, Sirajganj, Satkhira, Patuakhali and Pirojpur districts were the worst affected by the storm.
Thousands of thatched houses collapsed, while a large number of trees and electric poles were uprooted in the seasonal storms accompanied by heavy showers.
In Patuakhali, 28 fishermen were missing since Monday night when five trawlers and fishing boats capsized in Andharmanik and Ramnabad rivers in Kolapara during a storm.
Kolapara Radar Station sources said the storm hit the coastal district of Patuakhali with wind speeds of 115 km per hour destroying over 1000 thatched houses, shops and educational institutions.
During the storm, four other trawlers and boats sank in the Bay of Bengal, local sources said, adding that about 500 acres of betel-nut plantation were damaged at a village in Baufal upazila of the district.
Movement of vehicular traffic on different highways in the northern districts remained suspended. A ferry ghat was badly damaged following a heavy downpour.
Power supply was disrupted in a few districts as trees fell on overhead cables.
In Dhaka, a torrential downpour for more than five hours Tuesday submerged roads, lanes and by-lanes and low-lying areas disrupting normal life. Water remained stagnant in different areas as light rains continued Wednesday.
City areas like Motijheel, Shantinagar, Kakrail, parts of Dhanmondi, Green Road, old part of Dhaka and the Mymensingh Road near the Prime Minister's office were submerged leading to chaos in road traffic.
The met office recorded 122mm of rainfall in the city's during last 30 hours till Wednesday noon.
