Attempt to eliminate Tehelka chief foiled

The Delhi police on Sunday claimed to have arrested six criminals and foiled an attempt by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to kill managing director and editor of Tehelka.com Tarun Tejpal.

According to sources, two AK-47 assault rifles, two pistols and some live cartridges were seized from the arrested persons. The criminals are believed to have been hired by the ISI from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the sources said.

''I was told by senior police officials about the plan on Friday night and they asked me to be more cautious. Security at my office and residence has been beefed up and my personal security staff asked to be more alert,'' Tejpal told UNI.

Tejpal has been given 'Z' category security since his news portal came up with the expose on defence deals with its sensational videotapes, released on March 13.

''The police vans, which had been withdrawn from my office and residential premises, are back after the plan came to light,'' Tejpal said.
