Pak refuses entry to Taleban ministers

In an apparent attempt to distance itself from Afghanistan's ruling Taleban regime, Pakistan recently refused permission to four Taleban ministers to enter the country and asked the fundamentalist militia not to recruit and train Pakistanis to take part in the Afghan civil war.

Pakistan's Interior Minister General Moinuddin Haider said his government refused permission to four Taleban ministers to cross over to Peshawar to attend a religious conference last month.

Despite pressure from Jamat Ulema Islami, a religious party which organised the conference, permission has been refused, Haider was quoted as saying by Pakistan newspaper Dawn.

He told the JUI leaders that as a responsible state, Pakistan must respect UN sanctions against Taleban, including those relating to the movement of Afghan leaders beyond their borders.

Haider also told a seminar on Pakistan's Policy to Manage Extremism and Terrorism on Thursday that Pakistan had asked Taleban not to train and arm Pakistanis to take part in the fighting in Afghanistan.
