'China showing Arunachal Pradesh
as own in its maps'

The government on Friday asserted Arunachal Pradesh was an integral part of India and said it was aware of China showing the state as her own in its maps.

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha that the state of Arunachal Pradesh was an integral part of India and China was aware of New Delhi's position in the matter.

To a query whether the Indian government was aware of China showing Arunachal Pradesh in her own maps as her own territory, Singh said it was aware of it.

To another question, Singh said India and China, during the security dialogue between the two countries in February, shared the view that the existing arms control treaties should be fully implemented in good faith.

This, both countries felt, would strengthen nuclear disarmament and international security, he said.

Beijing also expressed its concern at the United States' plans to develop a National Missile Defence System, Singh said.
