Suggestions on Naga ceasefire to be considered: Advani

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Union Home Minister, Lal Kishenchand Advani, on Saturday announced that the government has decided to consider the joint representation given by political parties.

He said various other issues arising out of ceasefire with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (IM) would also be considered.

Addressing a crowded press conference in North Block, Advani said that the situation in Manipur in the last few days was also discussed in the meeting.

In the meeting it was felt that there was a need to take a "holistic view" of the situation as any conclusion may have an impact on the situation in other north eastern states, Advani said.

"There is an urgent need to remove the misgivings in the minds of the people and to assure them of the determination of the Government of India of not disturbing the geographical boundaries of the north eastern states," Advani added.

The home minister told reporters that everyone spoke in the meeting and the discussions were candid, free and frank.

Apart from Advani, those who attended the meeting included Reshang Keisang, Radhabinod Khoijam, Nipa Macha Singh and RK Dorinder Singh.
