Manipur legislators running scared in Delhi

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Members of the Manipur assembly, who flew into Delhi on Thursday evening, are staying at different places to avoid angry student leaders.

The student leaders are all pitched outside Manipur Bhavan.

On the MLA's whereabouts, a Manipur Bhavan official said: "We know that they have come to Delhi, but they are not staying here because they perceive a threat to their lives."

The Delhi police too is not taking any chances. Apart from personnel, an anti-riot vehicle has also been deployed outside Manipur Bhavan.

The MLAs and their party leaders will meet Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Saturday in an attempt to convince the Centre to revoke the extension of the Naga ceasefire to all Naga-populated areas.

Bharatiya Janata Party president Jana Krishnamurthy told rediff.com: "There might be some misunderstanding, but Vajpayeeji and Advaniji have already clarified that the ceasefire extension does not mean that the Centre has conceded the demand for greater Nagaland."
