Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday thanked Maharashtra Governor Dr P C Alexander, the state government and the people of Bombay for the "overwhelming warmth and affection" showered on him during his two weeks stay here.
In a letter addressed to the governor, the prime minister said: "After two weeks of recuperative stay in Bombay, it is time for me to express my deeply-felt thanks to you and, through you, to the people of Maharashtra."
"This was my second prolonged visit to the city for knee surgery in the past eight months and I return to Delhi with satisfaction that both my ailing knees have been well treated, enabling me to function normally," Vajpayee said.
"On both occasions, my stay was made memorable by the overwhelming warmth and affection showered on me by the people of Bombay and Maharashtra," he added.
Vajpayee was operated for osteoarthritis of the right knee on June 7 at Breach Candy hospital.
