21 killed in Bangladesh blast

The United News of Bangladesh news agency said that the explosion at the Awami League office in Narayanganj town, near Dhaka, the Bangladeshi capital, left nearly 100 injured people.

The official BSS news agency, quoting police sources, said the explosion occurred around 2045 hours, when local parliamentarian Shamim Osman, who was also injured in the blast, was holding a meeting with party workers at the newly set up office in the riverine district town.

The tin roof of the office was blown up due to the impact of the explosion, police said.

The injured are being treated at hospitals in Narayaganj and Dhaka.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The explosion came less than a fortnight after the blast at a Catholic church in Gopalganj district, in which 10 persons were killed.
