Seeking reduction in the amount of personal bond and sureties, Nanda's counsel Kanchan Singh told Justice A K Sikri that at the time of imposition of the conditions, his client believed that he would be in a position to produce the desired sureties.
But after consulting his father, Sanjeev Nanda subsequently learnt that 'the total value of the sureties that he can give as a condition for traveling abroad for a limited period is approximately Rs 140 million', Kanchan Singh said.
Justice Sikri, after hearing Nanda's application, issued notice to the government and Special Public Prosecutor I U Khan, asking them to file their replies by June 13.
While allowing Sanjeev Nanda, the grandson of former navy chief S M Nanda, to go to the United States of America to attend a 18-day business related workshop, the court, on June one, had directed him to execute a personal bond of Rs 150 million and two sureties of the same amount to ensure his return to face trial in the case.
The prosecution had said if Sanjeev was allowed to go abroad, he might not come back as he is a British national.
