The chief ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur will meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Friday afternoon to press for the withdrawal of the Naga ceasefire extension to their states.
However, Nagaland chief minister S C Jamir, who is also expected to meet the Prime Minister, has already said he is not in favour of the withdrawal of the Naga ceasefire extension.
The current ceasefire is officially effective in Nagaland only, but expires on July 31.
On August 1, 2001 the Bangkok agreement signed between the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M) comes into effect.
The agreement extends the ceasefire to all to all Naga-inhabited areas in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur.
Meanwhile, Naga NGOs, churches and student organisations have called for continuation of the peace process to create a congenial atmosphere for political dialogue to settle the issue.
They felt another opportunity to settle the Naga conflict will be missed by New Delhi and the Nagas if the current peace process breaks down.
