Bandh throws life out of gear in Nepal

The general strike called by the underground Maoist rebels protesting against public security regulations threw life out of gear in Nepal on Thursday.

Most of the shops and educational institutions were closed and very few government vehicles were seen moving in the streets.

The public security regulations empower the chief district officer for the security of the district.

There were no reports of violence from any part of the country.

A powerful bomb exploded outside the residence of Sujata Koirala, daughter of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, on Wednesday. There were no reports of any damage.
