Another ISI agent held in Orissa

The Orissa police have arrested another Inter-Service Intelligence agent involved in a fake currency racket in Kenderapara district.

The police arrested the agent on Tuesday, on the basis of information provided by two arrested ISI agents during interrogation, sources said.

The police seized fake currency notes and incriminating documents from the agent.

On Monday, the police arrested two ISI agents in Kenderapara district and seized fake Rs 500 notes.

The third agent, Amal Bepari, is an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh who has been staying in the seaside village of Khranasi for a decade.

The three agents were arrested by the police from Kharanasi village. The agents arrested earlier were T H Gopinath and Soni Werge, both natives of Kerala.

According to the sources, Bepari was arrested for his nexus with the other agents involved in the currency racket.

The police seized fake Rs 500 notes totalling Rs 20,000 from two suspected ISI agents near Kenderapara district, the sources said.

The sources further said that the ISI agents confessed to having brought Rs 100 denomination notes totalling Rs 20 million from Nepal to Paradip and adjoining areas.

Sources told rediff.com that the agents revealed crucial information about ISI activities in coastal Orissa .

Police officials said they were on the lookout for recently stolen cameras from the missile launch centre at Wheeler Island, with the needle of suspicion pointing at the three arrested agents.

The agents informed the police that they were in the prawn business and were involved in local activities, to identify themselves with locals.

Both the agents from Kerala have been in the prawn business in Paradip for three years, police said. They spread their network through illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

Last year, the Paradip police had arrested four suspected ISI agents, who were from outside Orissa, but were involved in petty business in Paradip.

Many illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been in coastal areas in Orissa since long. The state police is keeping a close watch on their activities, following a central government directive to make inquiries about the activities of Bangladeshi migrants.

A senior home department official said that the state police were on alert, as the Bangladeshi migrants were being used by the ISI.
