Two ISI agents held in Orissa with fake notes

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

The Orissa police arrested two Inter Services Intelligence agents with Rs 20,000 in fake Rs 500 notes in Kenderapara district on Monday.

Sources in the Kenderapara police said that the police are likely to recover more fake Rs 500 notes Tuesday after the interrogation of the culprits.

Sources said that the Pakistani agents also confessed to having brought fake Rs 100 denomination notes worth Rs 20 million from Nepal to Paradeep.

They used the money to purchase prawns from local fishermen. Last Friday they bought prawns from two fishermen and paid them five fake Rs 500 notes. One of the fishermen became suspicious and informed the local police.

Both the agents have been doing prawn business in Paradeep for the past three years, police said. Their modus operandi was simple -- to spread their network using illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the area.

Last year Paradeep police arrested four suspected ISI agents. All of them were from outside Orissa and involved in petty business in Paradeep.

A senior police official told rediff.com that the ISI agents had developed a nexus with some illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, who helped them in their shady activities.
