The history of any young democracy is a chronicle of turmoil. Nepal is no exception. This Himalayan kingdom is young but, sadly, pessimistic. Bordering India on three sides, its internal developments hold warnings for New Delhi. In the last two years there have been instances when Nepal's chaos revolved around India. In December 1999, it was the hijack of IC 814 from Kathmandu and the subsequent developments that caused anti-India feelings there. In 2000, at Christmas time again, another anti-India wave swept Nepal. This time it was violent. It claimed seven lives. Special Correspondent Josy Joseph, who spent the New Year in a volatile Kathmandu, met political leaders, observers and victims to understand the reason behind the powerful anti-India sentiments.
