Bharat Shah admitted to JJ hospital

Film financier and diamond trader Bharat Shah was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Sir JJ Hospital early on Tuesday morning after he complained of severe chest pain on Monday night, following his arrest in connection with Bollywood's nexus with the underworld, hospital sources said in Bombay.

Shah was subjected to a gruelling interrogation before his arrest and remand on Monday following seizure of two audio cassettes containing a taped conversation between him and underworld don Chhota Shakeel. He was remanded to police custody till January 18.

Shah was taken to GT hospital on Monday night around 2000 hours (IST) and was advised by doctors to be taken to the government-owned Sir J J Hospital, which has better facilities for treating heart patients, the sources said.

Shah, who had financed several blockbusters in the past, had also staked his money in forthcoming releases, including Devdaas, Lajja and Raju Chacha.

Shah had also invested heavily in the television channel B4Uas well as overseas diamond polishing units in Thailand and Belgium.

Meanwhile, the office of B4U was raided on Monday night following the arrest of Shah, who was one of the major investors in the recently launched channel.

Police suspect that a large percentage of underworld money had been pumped into the channel.

Police also raided Shah's Napean Sea Road bungalow on Monday. Six Crime Branch sleuths descended on the house of the film financier and carried out extensive raids, police said.

However, media persons, were barred entry into the house during the raid.

The raids were effected following seizure of two audio cassettes containing a taped conversation between Chhota Shakeel and Shah.

Meanwhile, a special court has allowed Shah's plea to have home-cooked food while in hospital. He has also been allowed to meet his close relatives.
