Repoll ordered in five
booths in Ramgarh: PTI

Of seven candidates in the fray, Chief Minister Babulal Marandi (Bharatiya Janata Party), Arjun Ram (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), Yamuna Sharma (Congress) and Nadira Begum (Communist Party of India) were main contenders.

Chief Election Officer A K Pandey said a repoll would be held on Thursday at booths 64, 88, 186, 211 and 247 from 0800 hours to 1700 hours IST.

Booth 64 was in Kankebadh basti, on the outskirts of Ramgarh, where the police opened fire in the air after some people snatched and tore ballot papers and pelted stones at security personnel.

Police said JMM supporters were suspected to be behind the attack.

Booth 88 was also in Ramgarh block, while the other booths going in for a repoll are in Gola block, from where complaints of bogus voting by suspected members of the All Jharkhand Students Union, a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in the state, were received.

The Opposition has called for an all-Jharkhand bandh on Thursday, to protest against poll irregularities committed during the Ramgarh bypoll and to demand a repoll in the constituency.
